I probably shouldn’t blog about this…I know it is not a good idea…but what the heck - I want to get it off my mind.
A couple/few months ago we received a phone call from a New York Times writer that was doing a story on the Northshore of Lake Superior. He was using LakePlace.com to do some research and wanted to ask some questions about the market. We patched him through to , our Northshore affiliate, and passed his contact info on to our public relations department (our public relations department is one person).
Well, our public relations “department” gave the writer a call, answered a lot of questions for him and was assured LakePlace.com was going to get a tiny mention in the article. As a small Internet startup - these kind of things are truly priceless - and needless to say, we were very excited about it!
Well, the came out, and…drum roll…no mention.
Really not that big of a deal…but also very disappointing to a small startup…especially when we have been anxiously waiting for it to come out. LakePlace.com has been mentioned by several great publications including the Minneapolis Star Tribune, Chicago Tribune, Twin Cities Business, even Money Magazine (and we are very proud of it) - but the NY Times…boy that would have been nice. I guess that’s a New Yorker for ya…(actually, if you have ever been to the big apple, you know that New Yorkers are some of the greatest people on earth - always happy to go out of their way to help you out - I have always been impressed with their eagerness to help a stranger, contrary to popular belief).
Again, it is not a good idea for me to write about this…because it probably means that we will NEVER get a mention in “The Times” (you would be surprised to know how easy it is to get a blog post noticed - I can almost guarantee you that someone from the NY Times will read this)…
When it comes down to it…we will take the Star Tribune, Pioneer Press, Milwaukee Journal, Madison Capitol Times and Chicago Tribune over the NY Times any day…but it is still a bummer. -=)
